The Longevity of Photography. The Relationship Between Archival Photography and Memory

Memories of the author's grandmother, who suffered from Alzheimer’s disease—fading over time and filled with ambiguity—sparked a reflection on the nature of memory. While searching through family photo albums, she began to wonder: Do photographs tell the story of the past or the present? Are memories truth or imagination?

The result of this reflection is a photographic publication in the form of a photo essay—an emotional record of the author’s thoughts, combined with seven stories from people close to her. Using both photography and text, the project visualizes the feelings that accompany the attempt to reconstruct lost memories and invites the viewer to relate to them.

The release of our new catalog of student graduation projects is always a special occasion. On one hand, it serves as a farewell to this year's graduates and honors their hard work by showcasing their final projects. On the other hand, it is a summary of the most significant and intriguing projects we have worked on with students throughout the past year.
